For full-year 2025, Transsion—the parent of TECNO, Infinix, and itel—led Africa’s smartphone market with about 48% of shipments, according to Omdia data.
2025 brand shares
| Brand / group | Q2 2025 share | Trend | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Transsion (TECNO, Infinix, itel) | 51% | +6% | |
| Samsung | 19% | +3% | |
| Xiaomi (incl. Redmi, POCO) | 14% | +32% |
Note: figures based on shipments differ from “usage” statistics; Samsung can lead usage-based estimates even while Transsion leads new shipments.
Samsung was the strongest challenger, with Q4 shipments up 27%, helped by the Galaxy A series.
Devices priced below $200 made up 81% of African smartphone shipments in 2025.

A citation is a promise.
On 14 October 2026 we put the same question — internet access and the digital economy in Algeria — to Gemini, ChatGPT and Perplexity, then opened the pages they cited.
- Gemini
- 18 citations. Of the 13 we could check, at most 2 were backed by the cited page: a 2024 edition cited for 2026 figures, UNCTAD figures credited to the World Bank, bare homepages.
- ChatGPT
- Mostly accurate — but the text you copy out has site icons where its inline links were, so the sources have to be put back before anything can be checked.
- Perplexity
- Cited a page for figures that page doesn’t contain.
